Swimming and Snorkelling

Pico, Faial and Såo Jorge – the Islands of the triangulo – offer breath-taking opportunities for a dip in the Atlantic Ocean. Because there are, with some exceptions, no sandy beaches, access to the sea is realized by natural pools or through little harbours in every single tiny village. Even in adverse weather conditions you will always find one side of the islands to have calm and clear conditions for bathing and snorkelling. Just in front of our house you can find the official swimming pools, the natural pools and the harbour of Madalena. All three offer great opportunities to get in the water – be it for quick and easy refreshment or for a longer and further swim. We spend a lot of time in the water ourselves and are happy to provide you with tips and tricks about how to find the best pool in which weather. >>Contact

Museums and Culture

Today as yesterday life on the islands, far away from continental land, has called for inventiveness. Vineyards, orange plantations, figs production; whaling, transatlantic cables, trade and pirates; volcanic eruptions and politic changes have left there traces that can be tracked in some of the islands museums. Other parts of the history of our islands is less well documented but can still be discovered if you are pointed into the right direction. We are happy to do so during your stay with us. >>Contact

Culinary experiences

Meat and fish is a valid summary of traditional Azorean cuisine. By now vegetarian dishes have made it too the menus of most restaurants. Prices are moderate. Be warned that, as with everything else, there is no hurry on the islands and it may sometimes take a while for until the ordered food has made it to your table. From our house you can reach several good restaurants within just a few minutes walking distance. Just a few steps away you will find the ‘Cooperativa do vinho’. Here the famous Pico wines are being made – you can also book a tour through the facilities and taste the local wines. >>Contact

… what if it rains?

Weather on the Azores is subject to fast changes but a lot better than its’ reputation! You can find a very detailed description on the weather and what to do with it in our seasonal calendar. But even if it rains our house with its fireplace, fast internet and a small library offers good and cosy shelter to survive a day or two of bad weather. And even if it rains there is still plenty to do: Go for a tour through the museums or visit the impressive lava tunnel. Often a lot of rain means a lot of wind also, which brings big swells to the shore and turn into very big waves and give spectacular picture opportunities. Even in adverse weather we will give you valuable advise on what to do with it during breakfast hours. >>Contact
